July Minutes 2008
Place: Lake Wobegon Trail Center
Sponsor: Central MN Federal Credit Union
Introductions
New attendee - Kathy Schroden - Angel's Custom Embroidery,
LLCs
Alison Brown Bell has taken over as staff person. Dues
statements will be going out this week.
Secretary's Report: Motion to approve Davey/Ehlert -
approved
Treasurer's Report: Jane Litchy on vacation this week.
Task Force - Ehlert, Davey and Cotton will to going out to
meet prospective businesses. We need a name for this
group like the "top hatters" from the St. Cloud Chamber.
Dotzler and Bell will work on the brochure to leave
behind. Renslow and Petters will work on criteria for an
additional "Business of the Year" to go along with the
Kelly Award to increase the merit and face of the
Chamber. Also working on the awareness campaign -
currently the ideas are a newsletter or chamber corner in
The Newsleaders to let the community in general know what
the chamber is accomplishing. Also, put together a
welcome packet including a coupon from Regent
Broadcasting. Mike McDonald has compiled a list of St.
Joseph Businesses to contact.
No secretary will be elected for 2008.
It is time to start planning for the nominating committee
for 2008 chamber board members. Please let Janelle know
if you are interested.
1/2-cent Sales tax committee has not met yet.
Lake Wobegon Trail Center - Renslow and Ehlert are on the
committee to work on finishing the payments on the
account. Renslow and Litchy have agreed to try to attend
the Lake Wobegon Trail committee meetings which meet once
per month with representatives from Sauk Centre,
Holdingford, Avon, etc. There was no July meeting so will
try again for August. But we are missing an opportunity
by not using and promoting our trail head like the other
cities are. An idea was put forward to put a sign on 94
directing people to the trail. People at our trail head
should be directed toward the businesses for a meal, etc.
Kreuzer would like to create an event for next summer
which might be a way to raise money for the fund.
Fireworks - Jane Litchy did a great job. She would like
to raise funds to double the display for next year.
July 4th Parade - the chamber did not participate.
Riverbats Night - Monday, Aug. 4th - Kruezer and Davey are
selling the tickets. Buy the tickets now so they don't
have to telemarket you. Pauline is looking for volunteer
for the game, please let her know if you are interested in
participating. A motion to put an ad in The Newsleaders
was put forward by Chad Davey and approved. We will also
send the flyer out by email and would like to put a black
sign at Scherer Trucking.
Millstream Booth - We will be staffing a booth at
Millstream Arts Festival in St. Joseph on Sept. 28, 2008
at a fundraiser. It is still undecided what the chamber
will sell, however, Central MN Federal Credit Union
offered to donate bottles of water if the chamber would
like to sell them at the festival. Jean Dotzler will
check with the Millstream Committee to see if other
vendors will be selling water. Those interested in
volunteering for the event are: McDonald, Von Pinnon,
Renslow and Kilanowski.
Harlem Ambassadors - The membership decided it was not
interested in hosting the Harlem Ambassadors basketball
team this year.
Winter Warm-up - There was discussion about the Winter
Warm-Up. The White Sidewalls are an option. Should we
contact GL Berg? It was brought up that we might want to
change the date or direction of the event. Renslow
suggested a candlelight cross country ski event. More
discussion will be needed. Ideas welcome.
The chamber was invited by the Republican National
Committee to participate in a trade show during the
Republican National Convention. The membership decided
not to participate due to the short notice.
