January Meeting
Networking activity - get business cards from everyone and do a getting-to-know you activity. Introductions - name, position and business. How do you spend your free time?

Accounting
Mike accounted for our expenses from 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Wobegon Trail Building - do we owe really money? Mike will check with the city to find out the specifics. We should put up a plaque and a map and list of businesses so people use them.

Ramp up Membership Committee

We need to set a goal for membership. We should start the membership on the calendar year.
Need to check on chamber plaques - Mike and Jean don't have one. Call Ed and Jane Litchy
Bill for 2009 memberships this month.

Respectfully submitted,

Secretary's Report: 1st/2nd - Gunderson/Stueve
Treasurer's Report:  1st/2nd - Davey/Dotzler

New Business

Minnesota Chamber of Commerce - event for leadership from out-state chamber to attend.  What makes these chambers function?  Von Pinnon and Dotzler will attend.  Anyone else is invited as well.

Harlem Ambassadors - traveling basketball team - two teams that travel throughout the United States.  Semi-professional players - ask for an upfront fee $4400 - then they bring their team to play a community team.  Find 20 businesses to sponsor players - each business provide $220 to sponsor our community players.  Concession and ticket money goes to the chamber.  Potential dates - Sept 17, 18 or 19.  We need a chairperson for the committee if we want to do it.  They need a 5-month lead time.  Davey suggested getting a committee together to get the sponsorships before we commit.  Davey, Dotzler & Litchy are willing to contact businesses to see if we can get sponsorships.  Renslow will check with CSB to see if the venue and players are available.

Purpose of the Chamber - we need to re-visit the purpose of the chamber, perhaps by doing a survey of members.  Are we going to continue doing the events we have done in the past?  How can we revitilize volunteerism in our chamber?  Should we honor more than one person be honored either at the Winter Warm-Up or at another time during the year.  Litchy - we could get together with the other service organizations and do a volunteer of the year, not to water down the impact of the Kelly Award at the Winter Warm-Up.

Davey - study on impact to 4-year residency of the colleges, short and long-term impact and impact on housing.  Wants a donation of $500.  Davey - motion to allocate $500 for study - 2nd by Stueve.  Dotzler - would this benefit the whole community or is it a special interest group?  Davey- they bring back the information for the chamber and the city.  Jacobson - should we make it a policy to bring it up one meeting and put it on the agenda for the next meeting to discuss?  Petters - could we get clarification on what they hope to reveal by the study?  Ardolf - economic impact of what?  Davey - all is regarding a 4-year residency of the college students on campus.

Agenda will be put out with the minutes prior to the meeting.

Habitat for Humanity is requesting donations.  Does the chamber think we should support this effort?  Litchy - many business have stepped up to support the effort.

On-Going - Winter Warm-up, Feb. 1 at the El Paso.  Comedian James Wedgewood will entertain.  We have 13 sponsors for the entertainment.  Still need door prizes.  Pastor Ron Stewart will emcee.  Davey will contact the Kelly Award winner and family to be attending.

Wobegon Trail - the fund may not be as far behind as we thought.  The Wobegon committee is having a meeting coming up.  Molly Renslow attends for CSB and will also represent the chamber.  Still talking about recognition.

Next meeting we'll set up committees for events coming up in 2008.
Fireworks
Millstream Booth
Lighting Ceremony
Holiday Party
Winter Warm-Up

Jacobson wants to talk about replacing the Christmas decorations for the city as they are not in good shape.  Perhaps we could replace one a year and if we could get the Jaycees, Lions, city to do the same.

Door prizes should be dropped off at The Newsleaders by Jan. 25.

Presentation - Diane Moeller - Kennedy Elementary School

Please see the email sent yesterday regarding the meeting on Tuesday, March 18 at the Teresa Reception Center at The College of Saint Benedict.
