August Minutes 2008
We are currently putting the finishing touches
on the updated Chamber Brochure and need to get it to print. We need
$550 for design and printing. Chad Davey from Edward Jones offered to
donate $50 to offset these costs. A motion made and approved for $500
to cover printing costs.
Jean Dotzler - invoices for chamber dues have
gone out - please pay if you haven't already. Millstream Arts
Festival - we are going ahead with a booth at the Millstream Arts
Festival on Sunday, Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. - probably to sell
pizza and water (donated by Central MN Federal Credit Union). More at
the Sept. meeting.
Secretary's report - motion to approve - 1st/2nd
- Dotzler/Terway - passed.
Treasurer's report - 1st/2nd - Kreuzer/Ehlert -
passed.
Thank you to Chad and Matt with the Riverbats
fundraiser. It is appreciated.
Additions/deletions to the published agenda:
Jane Litchy regretfully must resign as treasurer
and webmaster.
Chamber membership committee: Molly
Renslow and Colleen Hollinger-Petters. We would like to form an
executive committee to take care of the nitty-gritty business of the
chamber which would allow the chamber meetings to be more networking
oriented.
Petters - growing membership and sustaining
membership is a concern. The executive committee are ambasadors to
help the chamber grow. It would not be a committee to put on events.
We would like to put elections for the executive committee to be
part of the regular elections in October, so we need to get this put
together by next month.
More discussion is needed regarding executive
committee. The idea was brought up to give the existing board more
latitude in making the decisions rather then having extra people on
the board. The nomination committee will set up some potential
officers names.
St. Joseph Farmer's Market: It was suggested a place to be
more visable as a Chamber would be to be involved with the St. Joseph
Farmer's Market. Without having to do alot of extra work -Lisa Wallin
of St. Joseph already sets up at table with children's crafts at each
week at the Farmer's Market. She hopes to collect enough donations to
cover her costs. The Chamber could sponsor her table for kid's crafts
in the amount of $500 per year and put up a sign. We will table the
idea until next month - research if it is O.K. to promote the chamber
at the Farmers Market.
Lake Wobegon Trail Committee: Alison Brown Bell attended
the last meeting of the Lake Wobegon Trail Committee. They have had
alot of success with their Carmel Roll Ride - 325 particants this year
from all over the state. The commitee would like to do a fall ride as
well. We could start at our trailhead here in St. Joseph ad to it the
same day as the Millstream Arts Festival. It would have to be a
cooperative effort from more organizations than just the Chamber. It
was suggested we should put it together for 2008 - but seemed like to
short a ramp up perion so it will be tabled until 2009.
Apples for teachers: Tony Terwey will go to Collegeville
Orchards to get apples or Dick Loso will take care of it.
Thank you: from the St. Joseph
Catholic Church for the fireworks and our participation in the July
4th festivities.
Winter Warm-up: We might change the date and scope of the
Winter Warm-Up. We need ideas and more discussion on this.
Holiday Light Up: Light the tree at the Church -
cider/hot chocolate etc. checking with Sandy at the Church.
Light up St. Joseph: - Invite the community to light up
their homes. Set up ballots in the paper - sold advertising to pay
for. Good response - people coming from all over to see the
lights. Didn't do it last year but we would probably
get response. They visit businesses while viewing the lights. The
Newsleader could take over the sales of the page over advertising.
Need volunteers to set up the boxes around town with registration
slips. They all had ballot
boxes point of purchase displays.
Community Holiday Party: Is generally
held the first weekend in Dec. We need volunteers as the staff at
the Newsleaders has been handling the lions share of the load.
ISD 742 Update:Diane Moeller - New
community school will be open. Will be completed in the next two
days. Dedication is 9/12 at 9:30 a.m. They have hesitated to do
tours until the halls are not so congested. But will do so soon.
They will be hosting the Chamber meeting in Oct. so everyone can see
it.
People are very pleased, some looking for homes in St. Joseph.
Economic Partnership is hosting realtors from the area on the green
concept. Times doing a feature on the school. School maintenence
conference will also tour.
City of St. Joseph Update: The City working on updating
the Comp plan and Master Park Plan. Sales tax committee has met.
Meeting adjourned at 1:07.
